"For the listener who enters this testimony, a journey fraught with peril lies ahead. Enter with a sense of withdrawal and numbness. This is the dramatic tale of Fernando Johann Von Trepavich, a young sardine, distraught since his childhood, on his journey for a new life and ultimately his demise."
Fernando is a series of 7 cyanotype prints based on a short story created for the MICA Senior Commencement Show in 2011.
When it comes to cyanotypes, preservation is a delicate process. Cyanotypes are exposed using ultraviolet lights, such as sunlight. Subsequently, these prints do not react well to basic environments. As the cyanotype is exposed to these conditions, the print begins to fade and yellow, slowly erasing the image. For me, the impermanent quality of a cyanotype is what drives its beauty.
